Doesn't it cost a fortune to use electricity for heating?

The cost of using Fenix Electrical Heating Systems for heating homes may be a matter of concern especially in countries like Turkey where unit price of electricity is higher; however the total power consumed in heating systems is low. Therefore, even if the unit cost of electrical energy is high, the total consumption is low. Low temperature electrical floor heating systems provide minimum 30 % economy compared to other systems.

Electrical floor heating systems are operated together with advanced thermostats. These thermostats enable minimum consumption by controlling both floor and ambient temperatures. If floor insulation as one of the most important factors of floor heating has been applied, power consumption of the thermostat will be half the maximum operation time.

Electricity consumption is calculated separately for each room; therefore heating of the rooms used for different purposes can be programmed to be activated in different periods to minimize consumption. Users of smart electric meters can benefit from the heat preservation feature of these meters. This feature enables the heat preserved during the low-tariff periods to be utilized in the high-tariff periods.

What should the installed capacity be and how much energy does it consume?

The answer to this question depends directly on the intended use of the structure and heat loss in the building or room. Spaces with floor insulation as well as insulated walls and ceilings will require less installed capacity per square meter. To achieve minimum energy consumption, use of advanced thermostats that can be programmed hourly is recommended. These thermostats monitor floor and ambient temperatures as well as heat loss speed and determine when to start operating. On the whole, the thermostat will consume energy in approximately 40-50 % of the period that heating is required; accordingly the better the insulation, the lower is this ratio.

In areas like kitchens, bathrooms and hallways where the temperature is required to reach desired levels in the shortest time possible the installed power should be calculated as 100-150 W and in spaces like living rooms, studies, etc. as 80-100 W and in bedrooms as 60-80 W. Installed capacity means the maximum amount of energy that will be consumed at the moment the system is activated.

Is electrical heating safe and is there risk of fire?

Fenix heating cables are certified and approved for applications in houses, apartments and other spaces. The metal sheaths of Fenix electrical floor heating cables provide 100 % water resistance as well as resistance to impacts. Fenix products are manufactured according to the international electrical heating cable standards and they have been used especially in European countries extensively for over 30 years.

The cables are designed for application into cement, asphalt and other similar materials. As the cables do not come into contact with flammable materials and due to the absence of oxygen, there is no risk of flame and fire.

What happens to the investment if the cables are damaged and unable to function?

Fenix products are very rarely faulty. Any faults that may be caused by puncturing or driving a nail, etc. can be easily fixed as the location is easily identified. The faulty section can be identified within a margin of 6-7 cm; therefore only the floor covering of that area is removed and the faulty section is fixed using a special repair kit.

Is electrical floor heating healthy, does it cause swellings in feet and legs?

Heat close to body temperature diffuses from the floor upwards therefore it is clean and safe. Warming starts from the feet up and homogenous and pleasant warmth is achieved. The electrical floor heating systems do not cause dust to burn therefore circulation of the dust in the air is minimal. Accordingly these systems are not harmful for respiratory diseases and they do not cause dirt/dust on the walls or curtains. It is very easy to clean the dust on the floors. The radiators widely used in Turkey are not easily cleaned. Low temperature electrical floor heating is not harmful for allergies or asthma and these systems are recommended by asthma and allergy associations in many countries.

Contrary to heated water, electricity reaches even the most distant parts of the installation very fast and distributes the heat in a balanced manner. Swelling of feet and dust circulation that result from heat differences in water based heating systems are not observed in applications of Fenix electrical floor heating systems.

Are Fenix electrical floor heating systems suitable for installation under wood floors?

Fenix electrical floor heating systems can be applied under all kinds of floor coverings. Although wood is not a conductive material, the heat will rise upwards, even if it may be slower compared to stone floors. Insulation underneath the electrical floor heating system must be applied in order to avoid heat loss toward the ground.

Are electrical heating cables suitable for wall applications?

In theory, electrical heating cables can be used on the walls; however the cables must be fitted according to the local electricity regulations. Some organizations like VDE in Germany and ÖVE in Austria do not allow the walls to be fitted with heating cables. If the consumer wishes the walls to be fitted with electrical heating cables, they should do so with their own consent, without any liability for the company.
